I have long been an admirer of whimsical mixed media pieces and in the summer of 2010, I started creating my own pieces. Funny thing is that the last art class I took was in elementary school and I didn’t know how to draw or paint, so I taught myself by scouring blogs, watching videos on-line and taking books out from my local library. It took a while to get a style down, but now I have to keep my journal nearby at all times as I’m constantly drumming up new ideas in my head (some nights I wake in the middle of the night with them!)
I would never have thought that I’d ever be an artist but in my early 30’s after jumping from job to job and working in regional retail management as a road warrior, my spirit grew weary and my heart told me that while successful in my job, it didn’t feed my soul. No job I had ever did. I knew that I needed to be doing something creative. So after a couple years of planning and quietly working on my eco-friendly crafting business on the side (Green Earth Goodies), I finally took the leap and left my job to work for myself. It was the best decision I could have ever made.
You’ll notice that a lot of my pieces speak to following your heart and taking the leap for I truly believe that if you follow your passion, your soul will be nurtured, you’ll be happy living with less and the money…it will eventually follow.
